In 2019, our first ‘EDGE Book’ was published. Edited by Mihnea Tanasescu and Claire Dupont, “The Edges of Political Representation - Mapping, Critiquing and Pushing the Boundaries” was an engaging intellectual and collective experience where several VUB political scientists joined forces to unveil and challenge the concept of political representation. Two years later, at the end of a year where (anti)racism has been at the core of political debates and mobilizations in Europe (and beyond) and discussions around 'Black Pete' (Zwarte Piet) are still very heated, both in the Netherlands and in Belgium, the EDGE team would like to wish you a peaceful and resting Winter Break by sharing with you one of the chapters of the book.
Understanding the Controversy of ‘Black Pete’ through the Lens of Symbolic Representationby Ilke Adam, Soumia Akachar, Karen Celis, Serena D’Agostino and Eline Severs. |
